In No Time to Die, Bond 007 sees the grave of his truest true love, Vesper Lynd, and uncovers a bomb that almost kills him. Resulting in brawls with bad people, a motorbike joyride. And a pursuit in which Bond drives an old-school gadgetmobile with gatling guns in the headlights. 007 is no doubt a symbol of MI6 in world.
No Time to Die storyline is about as entertaining and as perplexing as teaching math to kittens, yet I persevere: It begins on a snowy day in rural France. When a creep wearing a kabuki mask saves the life of a young French girl after murdering her mother.
That little girl was Bond's current love interest, Spectre holdover Madeleine (Lea Seydoux), who brushes off the flashback while they're on vacation, which makes postcards appear like superfund sites. An old phonograph with a large horn sits in their hotel room. Suggesting the vintage vinyl renaissance is out of control.
It's a difficult situation, but Bond manages to get out of it, because, of course, he does. It also requires his split with Madeleine, which is followed by a credits sequence in which a Biological chain is visually displayed using 9mm handguns as its links, followed by the subtitle: FIVE YEARS LATER. Bond has retired to the Caribbean, perhaps Jamaic.
But I'm not sure since this isn't one of those high-tech mysteries where the locales scroll across the bottom of the screen like a computer readout — it's better than that, less pretentious. In any case, he still aims a pistol at shadows because. If anybody is justified in their paranoia, it's post-career James Bond.
The plot twists and turns, involving a Russian scientist and some biological warfare and nanobots. Recently seen in a moronic G.I. Joe movie and even more moronic conspiracy theories about the Covid vaccine. Because the latest Bond really and truly lets the women in his life hit him. Bond wears a ball hat and drives a Toyota Forerunner. But not at the same moment, before this all comes to an end with increasing music, explosions, and tears. You have indeed been forewarned.
Bond returns to action, but not for Mother England, but to a scuffle involving Eurotrash bad men. One of them has a bulging glass eye that doubles as a snazzy electro-weapon. No, he joins forces with his old CIA pal Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) and his compadre Poloma (Ana de Armas) for a fancy party in Santiago.
Notably, M (Ralph Fiennes) has replaced Bond with Nomi (Lashana Lynch), who even receives the 007 designation. Because nobody around here gets nostalgic about crap. Q (Ben Whishaw) and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) appear, as does the last film's villain, Blofeld (Christoph Waltz), because, as I said, 163 minutes.
