In The Addams Family 2 wednesday Addams (voiced superbly by Chlo Grace Moretz) competes in a school science fair in the film's opening scene. The homicidal genius daughter of Gomez (Oscar Isaac) and Morticia (Charlize Theron) starts her speech with a thinly veiled jab at her family.
The lines in The Addams Family 2 themselves aren't particularly memorable, but it's Moretz's delivery — deliberate, sharp, and with a refreshing confidence . That makes the film's first few minutes feel promising. Wednesday's painfully enthusiastic parents and her brother, Pugsley (Javon Walton), are in the audience. Cheering her on despite her request that they stay away from the event.
Wednesday Addams is an unusual 13-year-old in almost every way, except that she is completely and mortifyingly embarrassed by her family. To be honest, the logic behind her claim is shaky. Sure, dad Gomez (Oscar Isaac) is a slacker.
But her mother, Morticia (Charlize Theron), is a total badass, with a velvety voice, softspoken demeanour, and an elegantly fashionable wardrobe. Wednesday should be grateful that her younger brother Pugsley (Javon "Wanna" Walton) is the ideal target for her torturous impulses.

And the Addams family has a staff! That's some first-rate upper-crust living: A butler — oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, o Who needs a butler these days? — a butler named Lurch (Conrad Vernon), who would scare the bejeezus out of the Amazon courier, and a housekeeper.
But teenagers gonna teenage, I guess. So we open at the school science fair, where Wednesday shows some mad mad-scientist skills by melding the DNA of her pet octopus and her Uncle Fester (Nick Kroll). Her flimsy competition yields a meager volcano model and similar normie stuff. But everyone gets a participation trophy anyway, handed out by the hologram of apparently famous science guy Cyrus Strange (Bill Hader).
When her Addams kin act annoying and stange and therefore exactly like themselves at the fair, Wednesday starts pulling away. Hence a meddling lawyer (Wallace Shawn) knocked at the door and informs Gomez and Morticia that there may have been a mix-up at the hospital nursery when Wednesday was born. Which appears patently absurd.
I mean, so look at the girl: how could such a pallid, depressed child be the product of anyone other than these die-hard weirdos? The eye test appears to be conclusive.
After wacking the obnoxious lawyer away. Gomez decides that they should force some family togetherness by piling into their ultra-diesel mammoth camper. Which looks like the Hindenburg humped a humpback whale, and taking a weeks-long cross-country road trip. One might wonder how they can afford this.
Is Gomez recruited? Are they self-sufficiently wealthy? What are the taxes on their eerie mansion? I have a lot of questions.
