Elvis Movie 2022
TheQuentin
All of it is incredibly stylized, flamboyant, current, and self-consciously hip in a way that is obviously meant to appeal to generations for whom Elvis Presley may not be as much of the King of Rock 'n' Roll as he is the guy from the "Lilo & Stitch" soundtrack.
Whats New
Even hip-hop is blaring as young Elvis, played by Austin Butler, travels Beale Street in Memphis as a young man looking for musical pleasures in the 1950s, complete with a smouldering curled-lip swagger.
Butler radiates the charming air of a legend in the making whose every move makes women swoon more than he necessarily looks the part.
Col. Tom Parker (a prosthetically enlarged Tom Hanks) is impressed that one female "might have eaten him alive" after watching the footage of girls acting out as he gyrates around the Louisiana Hayride.
How 'Elvis' handles debt
The film does a fantastic job of showing how much his debt to Black musicians contributed to that cultural boom, from early glimpses of him peeking into a gospel revival tent to witnessing Little Richard in a Beale Street pub.
Until he hears those magical words, at least.
'He is white,'
The more difficult aspects of Presley's courtship of Priscilla Presley (played by Olivia DeJonge), who was 14 and 10 years younger than her future husband when they first met, are glossed over by Luhrmann, however.
